At the same time, the screens that hold those moments have become the default interface for everything else in life. We check them hundreds of times a day, alone, heads down. Technology has never been more capable, and it has rarely felt less warm.
We think the next generation of personal technology should not be another screen you manage. It should have a presence in the home, the way a lamp or a record player does, showing you something worth seeing rather than waiting to be scrolled. It should understand what is happening around it well enough to respond naturally, so that living with it feels less like operating a device and more like sharing a room with something that knows you.
The same is true away from home. Standing in front of a menu you cannot read, or across a counter from someone you cannot answer, the phone helps you get through the moment and then forgets it. Nothing carries over. The next trip starts from zero.
